Response to stabbing on Aboyne estate
Statement from Revd James Fletcher
We are deeply saddened to hear of the fatal stabbing which took place in our community last night. The people of St Mary’s will be keeping the victim’s family and friends in their thoughts and prayers at this tragic time and we will be praying for them as a community at our service tomorrow.
We will be opening the church between 3 – 5pm today (Saturday 15th June) as a quiet place for people to come to sit and reflect and think and pray if they wish.
There is enormous shock in our community at this tragic event, especially as there was also a non-fatal shooting only a couple of months ago. The appalling rise of violent crime, especially knife related deaths, in our cities and in our communities must be stemmed and we are committed as is the Church of England to working with all those who are seeking new and more effective ways of dealing with this terrible violence on our streets.
